In 2024, the import of electric and hybrid vehicles to Uzbekistan surpassed the imports of gasoline cars for the first time, the Customs Committee said in a report.
Last year, a total of 80,235 passenger cars worth $ 1.9 billion were imported to Uzbekistan, . a 7% decrease (-5710), year-on-year, while falling by 33.1% (- $ 632.6 million) in total value.
Of the total, 32,928 were gasoline cars, whose import decreased by 36.3% (was 51,699), and in monetary terms - from $1.18 billion to 707.2 million (-40%). While their share in imports over the year decreased from 64.4% to 44.2%.
Meanwhile, the share of hybrids and electric vehicles reached 55.8% on 39,564 vehicles.
Imports of electric vehicles are waived from excise taxes and customs duties, as well as vehicle taxes. Taxi drivers transporting passengers in electric or hybrid vehicles are exempt from the fee for obtaining a license until 2030. Since the beginning of 2023, businesses are entitled benefits for installing charging stations.
In addition, registration of electric and hybrid cars (1.5 BCU, or 562.5 thousand soums) is cheaper than gasoline cars (6.84 BCU, or 2.565 million soums).
