Now, when the negative effects of climate change and the shortage of conventional energy sources are becoming increasingly obvious, the peaceful use of nuclear energy is becoming the most important alternative solution for improving the quality of life and achieving national development strategies, said the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his message to the participants of the international conference “Prospects for the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy for Sustainable Development of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation: International and National Experience” in Samarkand.

The message was read by his spokesman Sherzod Asadov. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi is also attending the Conference.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that “the leaders of many countries reached a number of agreements at the COP28 climate summit held last year in Dubai aimed at increasing nuclear power capacity by 3 times by 2050, which will sharply reduce the negative impact of hydrocarbon energy sources on the environment.”

"The use of reliable, safe, cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy sources are one of the main priorities of large-scale reforms carried out in New Uzbekistan," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said adding that a specialized agency was established in the country, the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes Law, a long-term Concept for the Development of Nuclear Energy and a strategy aimed at strengthening the human resources potential of the sector were adopted To enhance the legal and institutional framework of this industry.

"Our country was one of the first in the world to begin construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant in accordance with international requirements and standards. We consider the IAEA an important partner in the successful implementation of these projects, as well as a number of programs in the field of science and health care," Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

"Undoubtedly, the adoption of advanced nuclear energy technologies will give an additional impetus to the development of our country, the creation of new scientific and technical developments and the transition to an innovative economy," he noted.

The conference agenda includes such issues as the construction of nuclear power plants, ensuring their safety and environmental aspects of the development of nuclear technologies implemented in coordination with the IAEA, innovations, nuclear medicine, development of education and training of qualified personnel for the nuclear industry.

"Uzbekistan is always ready for close cooperation with all foreign partners in this priority area," the president noted in his address.
