In an interview to the Ana Tili (Mother Tongue) newspaper, the Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev shared his thoughts on the January events and the future political structure of Kazakhstan, Liter.kz reported citing the Akorda.
The President Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan had coped with the consequences of the January events thanks to the unity of the people, emphasizing the importance of several key conclusions from this experience.
“Firstly, the power in the country must be united, ruling out any duality of power. Secondly, the president is not the God’s shadow on earth, but only a hired manager working for a certain term and in the public interest. The third important conclusion, in my opinion, is the need for a thorough selection of candidates for high government posts, especially in law enforcement agencies, who must be loyal to their homeland,” Tokayev said.
The president paid attention to the implementation of the principles of justice and the unity of the people. He stated that those who call for anarchy under the pretext of “democratic values” are in fact seeking to undermine Kazakh statehood.
The head of state noted that the highest form of democracy is the rule of law and that the path to this goal may not be easy.
