President of Uzbekistan on August 15 signed resolution abolishing from September 1, 2017 the excise duty for meat and processed meat by-products, poultry fat, pork fat, wheat flour and products used for animal feeding, the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MFT) announced in a statement.
From the same date, a zero rate of customs duty shall be applied on butter, soybean and sunflower oil, seeds (potatoes, wheat, meslin, rye, barley, oats, corn, cereal sorghum, buckwheat, millet, soybeans, flax, sunflower, etc.), rye flour, cereals and wholemeal flour from hard wheat, cane sugar, cocoa beans, raw materials used in pharmaceuticals, as well as some products for animal feeding.
From September 1, the customs duties for certain types of food items shall be abolished, including beef, pork, pork fat, poultry fat and other meat by-products, coffee, wheat flour and cane sugar, as well as excise duty for sunflower oil, cane sugar and coffee.
MFT noted that the reduction of customs duties for raw materials and materials for production of food items should serve as an incentive for local manufacturers, help reduce production costs and enhance competitiveness. In addition, this should stop prices from rising in the local market.
