The Afghan carrier Kam Air carried out the first ever direct Kabul to Tashkent passenger flight today morning, Uzbekistan Airways (NAC) said in a statement.
Islam Karimov International Airport may also serve as transit airport for Kam Air passengers to connect to Germany, UK and other European countries.
The new twice a week Kabul-Tashkent flight is only part of the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation.
Bilateral agreements have been signed for training of Afghan civil aviation pilots at the Flight School of the NAC, as well as for maintenance of Kam Air’s aircrafts at Uzbekistan Airways Technics.
The first flight was preceded by a great deal of preparatory work by the Uzbek-Afghan working group, which inspected the passengers security issues upon boarding from the Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport to meet all international aviation security requirements.
"Afghanistan is a friendly neighboring state, and civil aviation acts as a catalyst for advancing of bilateral ties and as a bridge linking the two cultures and economies," the statement added.
The first flight took place ahead of the official visit of the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, to Uzbekistan on December 4. The aircraft brought the Afghan government delegation.
