The serial production of Hyundai electric cars in the Kokand free economic zone is scheduled to begin by 2023, the Uzbekistan 24 reported.

Construction of 10 thousand electric vehicles per year capacity plant will begin in 2021. The South Korean Hyundai, Evergreen Motors (the official distributor of KIA and Hyundai in the CIS), the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Ferghana Governor’s Office are the stakeholders in the US$ 300 million project, which will 1,000 jobs.

This is not outh Korean’s carmaker’s first project in Uzbekistan. The company will also set up the assembly of from 1 to 50 ton trucks, intercity and tourist buses, as well as special vehicles.

Earlier it was reported that the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Changan Automobile is showing interest in the Uzbekistan market.
