On June 25, at the extraordinary general meeting of GM Uzbekistan, the company shareholders voted to rename General Motors Uzbekistan to UzAuto Motors.

The shareholders also approved the company charter in a new edition, with the essential facts published on the corporate portal.

Earlier in pursuance of the government decision, UzAutoSanoat reported bought out GM’s stake.

GM Uzbekistan was established in March 2008 and sells cars under Chevrolet and Ravon brands.

GM will remain in the Uzbek market as the technical assistant and will continue to supply spare parts, engines and components, while UzAutoSanoat will be able to continue to produce some of GM models.

Earlier, GM Uzbekistan promised to launch the production of Chevrolet Equinox and Trailblazer SUVs in Uzbekistan in 2019, and later Chevrolet Traverse SUV was added to the list.

The move is reportedly aimed at demonopolizing the Uzbekistan car market, creating new production units other than Chevrolet.
