Combined start-up of the second 280 MW combined-cycle plant (CCGT) was carried out at the Takhiatash Thermal Power Plant (TPP) on Wednesday the Ministry of Energy said.

Earlier in April the first CCGT unit was launched as part of the facility modernization project. The two plants will make it possible to cover the electricity needs of the households of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm province.

The new CCGT units are being built by the South Korean consortium of Hyundai Engineering and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The gas turbines and generators were supplied by General Electric.

The US$ 678.2 million project was financed through a US$ 300 million loan from the Asian Development Bank, as well as Uzbekistan’s own funds.
