On January 13, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on the transformation of the machine-building industry and development of competition in this industry, the presidential press service said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored that the industry accounts for 11% of industrial output, but the volume could be increased several times.
“A number of companies are showing interest in investing in Uzbekistan’s machine-building industry, in launching production. In this regard, he instructed to introduce equitable conditions for manufacturers based on the level of localization,” the statement said.
The President stressed the need to invest in the industrial assembly of cars, ensuring the production of 50-60 thousand budget cars and electric vehicles a year.
He instructed to set up, with the engaging of foreign experts, of an Uzavtosanoat’s activities transformation office. This process will be coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction.
By July 1, the transformation of 40 enterprises of the industry will commence. To increase competition, Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed out the need to prepare for privatization of 23 enterprises producing spare parts and components.
In addition, he set a task to put up for auction the shares of Uzavtosanoat in 14 entities not related to the core activity of the company.
He also touched upon the issue of reforming agricultural machine-building and instructed to utilize empty spaces of enterprises, reduce the cost of equipment by 30%, establish the production of inexpensive equipment, elevate its localization to 30% by the end of the year and at least 45% next year.
The Dec 29 government resolution provides for the switching of Uzavtosanoat to the production of only passenger cars and motor vehicles with electric motors. Until February 1, 2021, the company was instructed to engage foreign experts and consulting companies and develop a draft concept. In addition, the fee for the purchase of electric vehicles within the country and (or) temporary importation (paid when registering a car with the Ministry of Internal Affairs) has been scrapped.
