As part of the two 280 MW-each-capacity combined cycle gas plants project, the second combined cycle power plant at the Takhiatash TPP has reached full capacity, with functional tests underway, the press service of Thermal Power Plants JSC said in a statement.

The first 280 MW plant was launched at full capacity in December 2020.

The project will reportedly increase the technical and economic figures of the station. As a result, the specific gas consumption to generate 1 kWh of electricity will be decreased, which will save 488.6 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The introduction of modern and energy-saving technologies is also important for improving the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region. The need for water resources alone is decreasing from 452 million cubic meters per year to 159 million cubic meters.

Harmful gases emission into the atmosphere are expected to be reduced by 3.2 times, nitrogen oxide - by 3.5 times.
