The khokim (governor) of Tashkent province, Shukurullo Babayev departed for St. Petersburg to participate in the St. Petersburg Partnership of Small and Medium Business. On Monday Babayev met with the governor of St. Petersburg, Georgiy Poltavchenko.
The sides discussed the prospects for advancing cooperation, in particular the supply of equipment for Uzbek mining and processing enterprises, engineering systems and modular stations for purification of drinking water and wastewater, medicines, a statement on the website of the St. Petersburg city administration said.
The side also discussed the opening of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg. Another pressing issue was labor migration which was considered separately. St. Petersburg is ready to assist in training Uzbek specialists to work at St. Petersburg’s enterprises, the statement noted.
The Uzbek side announced its readiness to expand the supply of fruits and vegetables. The development of cooperation in the sphere of tourism was also discussed.
Georgiy Poltavchenko noted that St. Petersburg and Uzbekistan have gradually restored trade volume, recording a 35% increase in 2016 to the previous year.
A cultural and business mission of St. Petersburg to Uzbekistan is scheduled for November this year.
