On August 27, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined the priorities and plans in the energy sector at the 100 MW PV plant launching ceremony in Karmana district of Navoi province, his spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that over the past 5 years, the number of businesses has increased by 25%, and the volume of their electricity consumption - by 30%.

According to him, in the next 5 years, Uzbekistan plans to grow the economy by 1.5 times and raise the GDP to at least US$ 100 billion.

“To this end, thousands of medium and large industrial enterprises will be launched, and the demand for electricity will reach 100 billion kilowatt-hours. This is 30 billion kilowatt-hours more than now. Therefore, we have very big plans for the implementation of new reforms and projects in the electric power industry,” the president said.

In particular, over the next 5 years, an additional 11.5 thousand MW of new capacities will be commissioned in 19 projects worth of US$ 6.5 billion. By 2030, the share of renewable sources in the structure of electricity generation will surpass 30%.

To supply electricity to the provinces, it is planned to build 3,000 km of new power transmission lines of 500 and 220 kW.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed out that today 66% of low-voltage networks, 74% of substations and more than 50% of transformer stations are outdated. Therefore, in the next five years, it is planned to completely reconstruct 70 thousand km of low-voltage power transmission lines, 22 thousand transformers and more than 100 substations.

“Recently, we have been paying special attention to creating a single energy chain and enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation with neighboring countries. To this end, joint projects for the production of electricity will be implemented. Most importantly, we will launch additional backbone networks that will connect the energy systems of the countries of our province,” he said.
