Kazakhstan is planning to introduce temporary restrictions on the export of grain and flour to protect the domestic market, the Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeev.

This step is reportedly prompted by the unwillingness of local producers to sell grain to flour millers, Exclusive.kz reports.

“Russia has imposed a ban on the export of grain, we know the situation, we keep it under control. Our grain balance as of this morning is positive, and it will be positive. We have enough for the domestic market ... there will still be left for export. Exporters do not want to sell to the domestic market, they are waiting for the export price to rise,” the official said.

He noted that prices on the stock exchange are growing day by day. At the same time, Karashukeev did not name specific dates for the introduction of restrictions.

Earlier, flour millers of the Pavlodar region appealed to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with a request to ban the export of grain from Kazakhstan due to its catastrophic shortage. In March, wheat prices increased in Kazakhstan. Millers offer grain at prices ranging from 128,000 to 130,000 tenge per ton.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that unscrupulous participants create an artificial hype in the wheat market.
