A man has been brought to administrative liability for harassing a girl in the Tashkent subway. According to the case and the testimony of the victim, on September 24 she was returning from school on the subway to the Novza station. Muzaffar Shomakhsudov, 31, entered the train at the People’s Friendship station.

“After the train started moving, he touched her in an intimate place, committing sexual harassment. The victim immediately contacted the police officers with a request to take action,” the girl’s testimony is cited in the court ruling.

In court, the man partially pleaded guilty and said that the train was crowded that day due to the large number of people, and he did not notice how he touched the girl. He expressed regret and asked the court to mitigate the sentence.

The court found the defendant guilty the Sexual harassment / entails a fine of 2 to 5 BSUs or administrative arrest for up to 5 days) of the Administrative Liability Code, and sentenced him to 5 days of administrative arrest. SE will also have to pay 255 thousand soums for detention in a special detention center.

Another case of sexual harassment occurred on September 17 on the Alat-Tashkent intercity bus service.

According to the case, 58-year-old Maksud Narmetov touched the breasts of a minor girl (age not specified), who was sleeping in the bus. She reported that she woke up from fear and told her father about the incident over the phone.

An administrative violation sheet was drawn up against the man when the bus arrived at the bus station in the Chilanzar district of the capital.

The man told the court that at that moment he asked the girl for money for the ride.

At the hearing held in the same court on September 26, the man was sentenced to 5 days of arrest under Article 41-1 of the Administrative Code with a fine of 255 thousand soums for detention in a special detention center.

In 2023, 666 people were found guilty of sexual harassment in Uzbekistan. While, 48 people were convicted of disseminating intimate information. Liability for these actions came into force in April last year.
