Three members of a family died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Khodjeyli district of Karakalpakstan Saturday, the district mayor’s office said.
Reportedly, a man living in a rented house with his grandchildren, 14 and 10 (in 8th and 4th grades), cut off the chimney of a homemade heating stove and moved it to another room, where, without installing a chimney, he connected it to the gas line.
As a result of the carbon monoxide buildup in the room, all three suffered severe poisoning and died without regaining consciousness.
The chief of the Karakalpakstan Interior Ministry, district officials, and heads of all relevant agencies arrived at the scene, with investigation underway, and official inquiries into the tragedy ordered.
