The Navruz Market (former New TTZ) and its branch, Buz Bazaar (near Buyuk Ipak Yuli metro station), will be reconstructed to meet modern standards, the press service of the Mirzo Ulugbek District Administration said in a statement.
Reportedly, the goal is to reduce the scale of informal trading and implement modern management mechanisms. The day before, First Deputy Prosecutor of Tashkent city Anvar Urmanov and the District mayor Bokhodir Gaibnazarov, along with other officials, were briefed on the markets' operations and reconstruction plans.
The markets will be digitalized in stages and will a modern infrastructure and a dedicated situation center that will coordinate all economic, financial, and control processes.
The reconstruction is expected to expand the tax base and increase local budget revenues, facilitate doing business, improve services quality, and strengthen the rule of law.
Following questions on social media, the district administration clarified that the markets would not be demolished and rebuilt. Renovation includes phased creation of modern infrastructure, renovation of shopping arcades, entrances, passageways, and staircases, as well as improvement of pedestrian areas and the installation of CCTV cameras.
