It has come to light that the Andijan province governor allocated 730 million soums to support the bid to enter the "Andijan Polka" dance into the Guinness World Records.
The governor's funding order was signed on June 22. According to the document, 730 million soums were to be contributed from the 2026 provincial budget reserve fund to cover expenses associated with securing the world record for the traditional dance. The funds were transferred to the Provincial Cultural Department, with the department head tasked with ensuring their targeted and efficient utilization.
The mass performance took place on June 23 at the central stadium in Andijan, where 20,000 people simultaneously performed the "Andijan Polka" to set the record.
Tragedy struck following the event when 15-year-old Farrukh Nematov, an eighth-grade student from School No. 14 in the Asaka district who participated in the mass dance, was killed in a car accident. He died in the hospital after a Damas minivan, driven by his school principal, crashed on the way back from the venue.
"I am grieving the loss of my child all because of an directive issued by the governor's office," the deceased boy's mother said at the time.
