Reports have emerged from Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast indicating that an Uzbek woman is facing allegations of desecrating the Russian national flag. The Uzbek Migration Agency has issued an official statement addressing the incident.
According to reports circulating on social media, police discovered a floor mat bearing the image of the Russian flag during a routine raid in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Following the discovery, authorities began reviewing the case to determine whether to initiate criminal proceedings against the woman for "desecrating the State Flag of the Russian Federation."
The Migration Agency confirmed that it has taken the situation under official supervision. The agency's representative office in Russia, alongside the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan, is working closely with relevant Russian state authorities. They are taking necessary measures to clarify all circumstances surrounding the incident and to safeguard the citizen's legal rights and interests.
Officials noted that contact has been established with the citizen, identified as M.S., who is currently receiving consular and legal assistance.
"An airline ticket has been secured for the citizen's return to Uzbekistan, funded by the Migration Foundation. Her return is scheduled for August 6 of this year," the agency’s statement read.
This incident follows previous reports that foreign nationals and stateless individuals convicted of committing crimes inside or outside of Russia will be barred from receiving Russian citizenship or residency permits.
