Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has expressed readiness to partner with Uzbekistan in the defense sector, specifically highlighting potential joint initiatives in manufacturing long-range ballistic missiles.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a bilateral business forum in Belgrade.
President Vučić noted that while Serbia already produces short-range missiles, the country is positioned to begin manufacturing long-range ballistic missiles within a year. He emphasized his administration’s willingness to cooperate closely with Tashkent on this front.
"We can achieve major results in the defense industry," Vučić said. "We are actively engaging in technology transfers - both receiving advanced capabilities and providing technology to selected nations."
He added that Serbia's defense sector has seen significant technological and manufacturing advancements, identifying Uzbekistan as a key prospective partner for future collaboration.
The business forum brought together over 200 government officials, business executives, and chiefs of leading industrial and trade enterprises from both nations. Prominent Serbian companies in attendance included Galenika, AbelaPharm, Goša FOM, Yumco, and Luss Textile.
In his own address, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev remarked that the productive high-level talks have opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. The cornerstone achievement of the summit was the formal signing of a landmark strategic partnership agreement between Uzbekistan and Serbia.
