President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated officers and veterans of the police on the 35th anniversary of the Interior Ministry, thanking them for service protecting public peace, human rights and interests.

Mirziyoyev said nearly half of the country’s mahallas recorded no crimes this year, which he attributed to joint work by policeofficers, mahalla officials and residents. “Now this experience must be spread more widely,” he said, adding that work must continue on building a safe environment in every mahalla.

He named detecting and preventing cybercrime, fighting drug addiction and organized crime, and protecting young people from their effects as key tasks, saying they require modern knowledge and thorough training.

“We also expect from you initiative in preventing crime, strict discipline and conscientious service,” he said.

Mirziyoyev said the principle “Respect yourself and value others” means officers should preserve professional honor, strictly observe the law and treat every person with respect.

“People judge the system as a whole by the actions of a single officer,” he said, urging staff to listen carefully to every citizen who comes forward and help resolve their problems lawfully.

He said the sense of involvement in the country’s fate, part of the “O'Z” (UZ, or OWN) in the O’zimning O’zbekistonim (Own Your Uzbekistan) idea, should be clearly visible in officers’ work.

A group of Interior Ministry officials was awarded orders and medals by presidential decree to mark the Day of Police Officers.
