Uzbekistan sets a precedent today with the announcement of the winning private sector bidder for the country’s first ever competitively tendered solar power public-private partnership (PPP). This announcement opens new markets for private investment and makes progress towards the country’s goal to increase use of renewable energy. This PPP, tendered under the World Bank Group’s Scaling Solar program, will soon add 100 MW of clean, renewable energy to the country’s energy mix.

A new US$ 1.1 billion 1300 MW capacity thermal power plant (TPP) under a public-private partnership (PPP) terms will be erected in the Syrdarya province, with the commissioning of the TPP scheduled in 2022.

Chinese company Hebei Good Hope Logistics Development Co. will launch an electric pickups production unit in Uzbekistan. The relevant agreement was inked during the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China in April this year.

Uzbek-French joint venture Uzenergoengineering-Assystem for designing various types of electricity networks and energy facilities using innovative technologies has been set up in Tashkent, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.

Five set of metro trains of 81-765.5/766.5/767.5 model for the new elevated Tashkent metro line were dispatched on Thursday by the Russian Metrovagonmash (subsidiary of Transmashholding), the holding said.

The French TOTAL Eren will invest 150 million euros for a 100 MW photovoltaic station project in Uzbekistan. The plant will be built on a public-private partnership and will be erected in the Samarkand province. The project is expected to be launched in Q1 of 2020 and to be completed before Q2 of 2021.

For the first time aeromagnetic geological surveying of gold and tungsten deposits using a special aircraft was conducted in Uzbekistan, the State Geology Committee said.

Uzbekistan plans to launch supplies of off-road KamAZ trucks to Afghanistan. Specialized exhibition of Uzbekistan’s military-industrial complex was recently held at the Termez Cargo international logistics center, created to enhance trade ties with Afghanistan, where Uzautotrailer, which assembles Kamaz, presented its products at the exhibition.

A new gas-chemical complex could be built in Karakalpakstan in the near future, as the huge natural gas reserves were discovered in the Ustyurt region, Uzbekistan 24 reported.

Uzbekistan has resumed car exports to Russia, UzAuto Motors said in a statemnt. In May 2018, the then GM Uzbekistan stopped car deliveries to Russia due to revision of the pricing policy, and major production modernization to launch new models.

On August 20, the President Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the mining and metallurgical plant construction project near the Tebinbulak deposit in the Karauzyak district during his trip to Karakalpakstan, the press service of the head of state said.

Uzbekistan exported US$ 3.4 billion worth of gold in January-July 2019, an increase by 2.2 times to 2018, with the share of gold in exports at 31.8%, the State Statistics Committee said in a report.

US$ 553 million modernization project has been launched at the Bukhara oil refinery. The refinery, founded in 1997, will be technologically upgraded for the first time in 22 years, the Uzbekneftegaz said.

The spent fuel of the future nuclear plant in Uzbekistan, will be processed in Russia, and radioactive waste will be stored in Uzbekistan, Uzatom said.
