On January 3, the Tashkent city criminal court partially upheld the appeal filed by Gayrat Dustov and his attorneys, reducing his 15-day administrative arrest to 8 days. Since the revised sentence had already been served, Dustov was released directly from the courtroom.
Dustov, who protested against the closure of a methane filling station, was earlier sentenced to 15-day arrest on the Petty hooliganism charge. His comments during the incident went viral on the internet, leading to his arrest on December 25 and the ruling by the Bektemir district criminal court on December 26.
During the appeal hearings, Dustov’s legal team attained the review of the initial verdict. The proceedings faced a brief interruption as Dustov felt uncomfortable in the chest but resumed after his condition stabilized.
Dustov told that he had been held for one night in the Panelny custody facility and was later transferred to the Tashkent city police department.
The case has drawn significant public attention, reflecting ongoing tensions surrounding access to methane refueling stations in the city.
