The Embassy of Bangladesh in Uzbekistan hosted a reception on 24 April 2025 at the Hotel Hyatt Regency, marking the celebration of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

Mr. Adkham Ikramov, Minister of Sports of Uzbekistan graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was participated by a significant number of high profile dignitaries comprising the Ministers/ Deputy Ministers, Senators, Members of Parliament, CEOs of business houses, Rectors of Universities, Heads of cultural and media institutions as well as Ambassadors and diplomats of various countries based in Tashkent.

At the outset of his remarks, Bangladesh Ambassador to Uzbekistan Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam paid his deep homage to valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives for liberating the country in 1971. He expressed profound appreciation and thanks to foreign friends including the people of Uzbekistan, who supported the cause of Bangladesh at the most challenging time of the history of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Ambassador Dr. Islam highlighted the socio-economic acheivements of Bangladesh, in the fields of poverty reduction, food security, women empowerment, natural disaster management and climate change. He also underlined the commitments of the interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to building an exploitation free, peaceful and progress Bangladesh. Describing Uzbekistan as a trusted friend and partner, Dr. Islam presented the current status of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, expressing optimism for stronger partnership in areas of textile, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, tourism, education, employment, culture and connectivity. Citing the historical, cultural, linguistic and spiritual ties shared by the peoples of the two countries, he emphasized the need for working more closely to comprehensively harness the potentials that Bangladesh and Uzbekistan offer in their bilateral spectrum.

Ambassador, Dr. Islam also underlined the importance of close coordination between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan on issues of regional and global significance in various international platforms, in view of the evolving geo-political and geo-economic developments. Articulating the Bangladesh’s steadfast policy of promoting peace and stability throughout the world, he urged everyone to make every possible endeavor from their respective positions to advance peace, progress and prosperity across the globe.

An enthralling cultural show, comprising patriotic songs and dances of Bangladesh, was performed, receiving appreciation and applause from the participating audience.

The celebration was ended with a cake cutting ceremony, marking the glorious Independence and National Day of Bangladesh as well as enduring friendship between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
