The foreign-invested Allied Biofuels signed land and water allocation agreements with the Khorezm province governor’s office for a zero-emission aviation fuel plant project, the company said today.

projected investment in the project are expected to total $5.9 billion. The plant will be located in the Tuprakkala district and will be the first fully integrated biorefinery in Central Asia.

The future plant’s designed production capacity will be 382,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), 152,000 tons of electro-synthetic SAF (e-SAF), and 11,000 tons of green diesel. The latter will be produced using hydrogen produced using 2 GW electrolyzers.

The signing took place during the International Investment Forum in Khiva, with the participation of the company's CEO, Alfred Benedict, and the governor of the Khorezm province, Jurabek Rakhimov.

"The project is in line with Uzbekistan's national climate strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Industrial-scale production of zero-emission fuel will replace fossil fuels in transport and industry, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerate the country's transition to green energy," the company emphasized.

According to Alfred Benedict, the agreement will be a "historic moment" for the company and the province. Province’s Governor Jurabek Rakhimov expressed gratitude for choosing the province for the project. He emphasized that the project would strengthen Khorezm's position as a hub for green energy, create hundreds of jobs, and make a significant contribution to the province's economic development.

Allied Biofuels was registered in Uzbekistan in July. Its CEO, Alfred Benedict, is also the CEO of the Australian company Allied Green Ammonia. In April, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation with the company.

The parties then unveiled their plans to develop a green energy project envisaging the annual production of approximately 800,000 tons of green urea, 350,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and 35,000 tons of green diesel. As reported then, the project envisioned the use of up to 4 GW of renewable energy and 6,000 tons of biomass per day. The investment value stood at $5.5 billion.
