27.5 million out of the 137 million seedlings which were planted in the spring as part of the Green Space program across Uzbekistan have withered.
According to the presidential press service, Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized this situation at a government meeting on September 26.
Reportedly, the reason for the withering of 20 percent of seedlings is that the seedlings did not have time to germinate due to the rapid onset of hot days between spring and summer. They in fact required 2-3 times more water than usual.
“In this regard, the president pointed to need to increase planting of trees in the fall. Now, 125 million trees and shrubs will be planted in the fall this year, and another 75 million in the spring next year. The authorities will require not to plant seedlings in places where there is no irrigation system and facilities.
