An accident in one of the Central Asian countries has disrupted the region's unified energy grid, causing power outages in Surkhandarya and several other provinces of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy reported the disruption without specifying which country the accident occurred in.
"Power engineers are currently restoring the electricity supply in stages. Further information will be provided," the ministry said in its statement.
According to Uzbekistan's National Electric Grids, a multi-stage emergency protection system within the unified energy grid was triggered in response to the accident.
Kaktus.media reported mass power outages in Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, and Tajikistan's capital, Dushanbe.
Tengrinews reported that an emergency protection system on power transmission networks operated by Kazakhstan's grid operator, KEGOC, shut down 300 megawatts of capacity, cutting power to the city of Almaty and 10 districts across Almaty province. The outlet said metro service in the city had come to a halt.
