The Government of Uzbekistan, by its December 11 decree, has approved the Program for development of activities and strengthening resource base of state museums for 2017-2027.
The program includes a plan for construction, restoration, overhauling and equipping of museums in all provinces of Uzbekistan. The newly formed National commission for coordinating the execution of the program is headed by First Deputy PM/ Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Achilbay Ramatov.
The document, among other things, aims to review the concepts of all museums, taking into account domestic and foreign experience, introduce measures to improve the safety of exhibits, improve the quality of visitor services and create disability facilities.
State museum-reserves will be established in Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Navoi and Ferghana provinces, and the activities of existing museums in Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva will be improved.
In 2018-2019 the centers of culture and recreation in all cities and provinces will host exhibitions, telling about the history, culture, nature and life of the population of the region.
It is planned to open 7 new museums, reorganize 21 museums and close 33 museums. The program is estimated at 572.354 billion soums (US$70.66 million- at CB rate).
