The European Union, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the government of Uzbekistan signed an agreement in Samarkand on May 17 to support and finance Uzbekistan's Strategy for Green Transition by 2030, the press service of the EU Delegation in the country said.
Joint events are designed to assist the government of Uzbekistan in its efforts to ensure sustainable economic growth, taking into account respect for the environment and natural resources of the country.
In line with the priorities of the European Global Gateway Strategy and the EU green policy, the purpose of the agreement is to create conditions for high environmental standards, increase the government's ability to formulate and implement green economy policies in various sectors, and provide the population with sustainable jobs.
As part of the Team Europe initiative, the EU is providing grant support to Uzbekistan in the amount of 10.2 million euros, in addition to a loan from the ADF in matters of state policy in the field of green economy in the amount of 375 million euros. The report notes that of this amount, 150 million euros have already been provided.
The signing ceremony was attended by Miriam Ferran, Deputy Director General of the Directorate General for International Partnerships of the European Commission, Remy Riou, Director General of the French Development Agency, and Ilkhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan.
