The VIII Congress of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) held in Tashkent on October 19 has nominated the member of the party’s political council - Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev as the party’s presidential candidate.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev was a close ally of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in the implementation of large-scale reforms, creating and reinforcing the foundations of independence and building of a new economic system, it said in a statement of the party’s press-service.

It was noted that at the current stage of development in Uzbekistan it is crucial to nominate a candidate who would be capable to further reinforce the country’s independence, bring the process of transformation to a higher level, and a personality who has a clear understanding of the essence and importance of reforms and can take an active part in their implementation, who has inseparably tied his fate with that of the people, cares for their well-being, a proactive and a talented leader.

The speakers at the congress noted that Shavkat Mirziyoyev devoted his career to the sake of the motherland, whose deeds and results rightfully earned the respect and renown among fellow citizens. They expressed confidence that in the upcoming elections on December 4 the candidate will receive the full support of the people of Uzbekistan.

The congress members stressed that the main tasks of the party, a leading political force with most seats in representative bodies, is to continue the implementation of proven reforms, maintain peace and order in the country, increase the people's welfare.
