Two pedestrians have died after a Malibu-2 struck three individuals crossing a street in the city of Andijan, the Road Safety Department reported.

Video footage capturing the horrific moments of the accident quickly circulated across social media platforms. According to official reports, the traffic accident occurred on June 25 at approximately 17:55 along an uncontrolled zebra crossing on Amir Temur Avenue in the "Yangi Buston" neighborhood. A 27-year-old driver (born in 1997), identified as R.Z., was driving the Malibu-2 when he flagrantly violated Clause 109 of the traffic regulations by failing to yield and crashing into three pedestrians crossing the road.

Under the established traffic code, a driver approaching an uncontrolled crosswalk is strictly required to slow down or come to a complete stop to allow pedestrians currently on the roadway to pass safely.

Because the driver failed to comply with this mandatory safety law, the struck pedestrians sustained severe bodily injuries and were rushed to a local hospital. Despite the exhaustive medical treatments provided by emergency physicians, two of the victims succumbed to their injuries.

The driver has since been placed in procedural custody. The Investigative Department of the Andijan City Department for Coordination of Police Bodies' Activities has initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code, which penalizes violations of vehicle traffic or operational safety rules resulting in human fatalities. Active investigative proceedings are currently underway.
