A 22-year-old Indian female medical student in Uzbekistan has died following a violent altercation with a male classmate who is also an Indian national, according to local Indian media outlets.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Sadharul Anam, has been detained in connection with the murder of Savariya, a student originally from the Indian state of Kerala. The tragedy unfolded around July 3 following a sudden dispute between the two classmates. During the argument, the suspect reportedly struck the young woman on the head with a laptop.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Despite receiving medical treatment, she succumbed to complications arising from internal bleeding. Both individuals were students at the Bukhara State Medical Institute.

Uzbek law enforcement authorities have arrested the suspect. Sawariya's body has since been repatriated to India, arriving first in New Delhi, and is expected to be transported to her hometown of Alappuzha for the funeral services.

According to sources, the victim's uncle traveled to Uzbekistan to assist with the repatriation process immediately after learning of the tragedy. Her father, who works in Kuwait, was unable to travel to Uzbekistan due to documentation issues and was forced to return straight to Kerala. Sawariya was one of two siblings and is survived by a younger brother.
