A woman and a National Guard officer who attempted to rescue her have drowned in Tashkent, the Millar news program reported.

The incident occurred near the Alley of Memory (Xotira xiyoboni), where a woman reportedly threw herself into the Bozsu Canal. National Guard personnel from the Tashkent City Department spotted her being swept away by the current. One of the officers immediately jumped into the water in a desperate bid to save her life.

However, due to the canal's powerful current, both the woman and the National Guard officer were dragged under and drowned. The report noted that the fallen officer, 21, was engaged to be married in the coming days.

The woman’s body was recovered on the day of the incident and handed over to her family. Following an extensive search operation by emergency rescue services, the officer's body was also recovered.

This tragedy follows a separate incident in Chirchiq, where emergency services successfully rescued a citizen who had fallen into the same Bozsu Canal.
