Victims of harassment and violence in Uzbekistan will now be allowed to stay in specialized support centers for up to six months, a significant extension from the previous limit of 30 days.

The law—titled "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of Uzbekistan aimed at Further Improving the System of Providing Social Services to Victims of Harassment and Violence"—clearly defines the specific mandates of the National Agency for Social Protection regarding the safeguarding of women against abuse and harassment.
Furthermore, several relief measures are being introduced to support affected women and their minor children. Notably, they will be exempt from paying state fees when replacing a lost biometric passport or when requesting duplicate marriage and birth certificates.
The state is also launching a system to provide high-quality, government-funded legal assistance to these victims and their children.
Senators emphasize that this law will strengthen targeted, effective social protection for women and minor children facing violence, while significantly refining the overall support and social services infrastructure.
This follows a presidential decree signed in March, titled "On Additional Organizational and Legal Measures to Strengthen the Protection of Women’s and Children’s Rights and Prevent Harassment and Violence." Among other initiatives, the decree mandates that starting April 1, 2026, a specialized "SOS" emergency mobile application will be installed on the phones of women who have suffered from violence.
