Three underage girls have tragically drowned in an artificial irrigation pond in the Mirzachul district of the Jizzakh province, the spokesman to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov reported.
The tragedy occurred on July 17 at around 1:00 PM. The three girls entered an artificial reservoir—dug for a drip irrigation system on farmland located within the Pakhtazor neighborhood area—to go swimming, where they subsequently drowned. Two of the victims were 17 years old, and the third was 15.
A forensic medical examination was conducted to establish the exact cause of death. According to the preliminary findings issued by the district branch of the forensic medical examination bureau, the girls' deaths were caused by "mechanical asphyxiation resulting from the obstruction of the upper respiratory tract by water" (drowning).
The Mirzachul District Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting a pre-investigation inquiry into the incident.
