Uzbekistan has announced new concessions and incentives for Afghan transit vehicles, AtlasPress reported. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, met with Mullah Mohammad Fazel Mazloom to affirm that Tashkent will introduce favorable conditions to help boost the volume of Afghan transit traffic.
The two sides also discussed streamlining the visa issuance process for drivers from both nations and establishing a joint technical task force to oversee the implementation of these measures.
Reportedly, Uzbekistan serves as a critical Central Asian trade corridor for Afghanistan. "Consequently, any adjustments to transit regulations along this route have a direct bearing on Afghan import and export businesses, particularly in the northern provinces. Fulfilling these commitments could significantly ease the operational challenges currently faced by drivers and merchants."
Earlier reports indicated that Uzbekistan has issued approximately 5,000 visas to Afghan citizens, while trade volume between the two neighboring countries has reached $150 million.
