Two traffic police officers were injured in a clash with the relatives of a driver in Surkhandarya province's Angor district, the province's traffic police press service reported.
According to the agency, the incident took place on August 9. The driver of a Damas minivan, 39, attempted to drive off upon spotting the officers and was stopped near a home in Ilgor neighborhood.
Traffic police said the man got out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot. Officers reported smelling alcohol on him and moved to take him for a medical examination.
The driver's brothers, his wife and a neighbor then arrived at the scene. According to police, they resisted officers, and two of the inspectors were injured as a result.
Prosecutors from Angor district and an investigative task force from the district police department arrived at the scene. A criminal case was opened the same day under Part 2 of Article 219 of the Criminal Code, Resisting a police officer.
The Surkhandarya province police department has also launched an internal probe of the traffic officers' conduct and said further details would be released once the review is complete.
