Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a one-on-one meeting and the third session of the Supreme Bilateral Council at the Kuksaroy residence Sunday, the Uzbek president's press service reported.
Mirziyoyev described the Azerbaijani leader's current state visit as a historic occasion. "This will be underscored by the signing of a Treaty on Eternal Friendship at the conclusion of the summit. Most importantly, every element of our strategic partnership and alliance is being translated into concrete, tangible outcomes," the Uzbek president said.
The two leaders noted the dynamic growth of bilateral ties, pointing to close cooperation between their parliaments, governments and sector-specific agencies. Mutual trade has tripled over the past five years, and joint projects are underway in the energy, chemical, mining and textile industries, as well as in agriculture and urban development.
Mirziyoyev and Aliyev highlighted the potential to raise bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion and stressed the need to strengthen connectivity between the two countries and jointly develop the Middle Corridor trade route.
The presidents also agreed to continue active exchanges in culture, education, youth policy and sport.
