President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part in a ceremonial event marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence on the evening of Friday, August 28, and will deliver a holiday address to the nation, his spokesman, Sherzod Asadov announced.
In the morning, the president is scheduled to attend a commemoration ceremony for victims of political repression at the Shahidlar Khotirasi memorial complex, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Independence Monument in New Uzbekistan Park.
Last year, Independence Day celebrations — the holiday itself falls on September 1 — with presidential participation were held on August 29; in previous years, the main events had taken place on August 31.
