Construction has been completed on a 62 billion-soum ($4.9 million) bridge over the Naryn River in Namangan province, connecting the districts of Uychi, Uchkurgan and Naryn with the provincial capital, the provincial government's press service has reported.
According to the province's main road administration, the two-lane, 481.5-meter bridge is now one of the longest river bridges built in Uzbekistan since independence.
Supported by 20 intermediate piers, the bridge will cut the distance residents of Uchkurgan and Naryn districts must travel to reach Namangan by 20 kilometers.
The bridge will also improve connectivity to Uchkurgan border crossing with Kyrgyzstan — known as Kensai on the Kyrgyz side — which opened in September 2024.
The bridge is part of a broader road project spanning 17.5 kilometers in total, being built by the Tashkent provincial branch of the Uzyulkuprik road-construction cluster.
The bridge's construction was first reported in February 2024, when the total cost of the project was estimated at 184.9 billion soums, including 53.6 billion soums for the bridge itself.
In 2020, Uzbekistan renovated another Naryn River bridge — a 267.5-meter structure built in 1962 that links Namangan province with Andijan and Fergana provinces.
