The Senate approved changes to district boundaries in Navoi and Surkhandarya provinces on September 11, the Senate’s press service reported.
In Navoi province, 2,459 hectares of territory will be transferred from Tamdi District to the city of Zarafshan.
The decision was made to support the long-term development of Zarafshan, make more effective use of the area's economic potential, attract investment, and create new jobs, according to the Senate.
Officials plan to implement more than 250 industrial and manufacturing projects on the newly incorporated territory, along with 90 social infrastructure facilities and over 500 retail, consumer service, and other commercial outlets. New residential housing and the necessary engineering and utility infrastructure are also planned.
Senate Chairwoman Tanzila Narbaeva said on her Telegram channel that optimizing territorial boundaries is not merely an administrative change, but an important mechanism for creating new opportunities for socioeconomic development.
In Surkhandarya province, 4,740 hectares of territory will be transferred from Jarqorgan District to Qiziriq District.
Senators noted that 4,200 people in 710 households live in the affected area, and that the district center lies roughly 20 kilometers away — a distance that complicates residents' ability to handle tax matters, social benefits, pensions, utility payments, and other administrative needs.
Children in the area also attend schools and preschool institutions in Qiziriq District. The senator Bakhrom Abdullaev said this illustrates which district the residents are actually tied to in social terms.
