Officials in the Karakalpakstan's Muynak district have faced consequences after unlawfully confiscating 235 fish from an business owner, the Business Ombudsman reported.
According to the report, a water reservoir had been allocated to "A.A." LLC under a decision by the Muynak district mayor. The company used the reservoir to farm fish, operating under a contract with the Karakalpakbaliqsanoat (Karakalpak Fish Industry) fish-farming association.
Inspectors from the Kazakdarya State Forestry Department subsequently carried out an inspection of the company's operations and confiscated all 235 industrially farmed fish.
An inquiry by the Business Ombudsman's office found that the inspection had been conducted unlawfully and that the fish had been seized in violation of the law. The inspection had not been registered in the Unified State Control information system, as required by law — a lapse that resulted in financial losses for the business owner.
Administrative violation reports have since been drawn up against the officials responsible. Under a ruling by the Kungrad district court on the criminal case, they were fined administratively.
The officials have also been ordered to jointly compensate the business owner for the damages incurred.
This follows an earlier report that a case had been opened against regional power-grid companies over 5.5 billion soums improperly collected from business owners.
