Authorities in Tashkent Province have opened an inquiry into reports that a 20-year-old man fell into a coma after receiving treatment at a private clinic in Angren, the Tashkent Province Health Department said.
According to information circulating online, the patient visited the private Angren Medical Center on July 31 with cold symptoms. His condition worsened and he lost consciousness after he was given an intravenous drip without a preliminary test.
A city ambulance crew was then called, and the man was taken in serious condition to Angren City Central Hospital, where he underwent a tracheostomy. He remains in the hospital's intensive care unit. His parents have voiced frustration that the private clinic has not provided sufficient financial assistance for his treatment.
The health department said the case is under its supervision. It has formed a working group and ordered an internal inspection to examine the case thoroughly and impartially. Investigators, working with relevant specialists, will review the quality of care the patient received, the course of treatment and the causes of the incident.
In March, a 39-year-old woman in Yangikurgan district, Namangan Province, died while receiving an intravenous drip at a family doctor's clinic. She had not been examined by a doctor before the procedure. A criminal case was opened against a nurse over the incident.
