President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a ceremony in New Tashkent to commission seven facilities worth a combined $1 billion and to launch construction of 10 more major projects valued at $2.5 billion, the president’s press service said.

The commissioned facilities include the first phase of the Sharq Bahori residential complex, New Tashkent Substation No. 1, a trigeneration plant, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, Sohil Bogi recreation park and a 2,000-seat general education school.

The trigeneration plant, built with Turkey’s MIMSAN and $73 million in investment, will provide centralized heating and cooling for 100,000 households and generate electricity. The substation and high-voltage grid project, built with China’s Haocheng Industry Group Limited, cost $95 million.

Work also covered an 18-kilometer highway, 13 kilometers of sewage lines and 4.5 kilometers of drinking water mains. Nearly 7,000 apartments were built in Sharq Bahori’s first phase.

The new projects involve partners from China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. One is the Deep Tech Park industrial zone, which will specialize in high-tech products and semiconductors. A total of $320 million will be invested in it, and projects worth $1.7 billion will later be located there.

Finland’s MariMatic will take part in a project to collect waste and produce “green” electricity. Photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 20 megawatts are also planned for apartment-building rooftops.

Projects worth $50 billion are planned in New Tashkent’s first phase alone, and work worth $2 billion has been completed, including housing, universities, a library and an amphitheater. The city is to have 2,000 hectares of green space and 500 hectares of parks, with 150 million square meters of building space under “Green Construction Standards.”
