The Tax Committee has put a draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution on mandatory digital labeling of vegetable oil up for public discussion, with the requirement taking effect on July 1, 2027 if the draft is adopted.
The draft says the initiative aims to digitize the production and sale of vegetable oil and to prevent its illegal import, production and sale, according to its preamble.
The requirement would cover oils in groups 1507-1515 of the Commodity Nomenclature of Foreign Economic Activity, including soybean, peanut, olive, palm, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed, coconut and rapeseed oils.
Producers, importers and wholesale and retail businesses would have to connect to the “Asl belgisi” national labeling and product tracking system, operated by CRPT Turon. A barcoded sticker would be affixed to each consumer package, and the product would be tracked through the system from release to withdrawal from circulation.
Selling covered oil without a labeling code would be treated as a violation of trade rules. The draft proposes giving tax authorities responsibility for monitoring compliance.
Public discussion runs until Oct 24.
Mandatory digital labeling in Uzbekistan already applies to tobacco products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including drinking water, medicines and household appliances. The system has been expanded in stages since 2020. The implementation of aggregation for water and soft drinks was earlier postponed to April 1, 2027.
