An Investors’ Council will be set up in the fuel and energy sector in Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at an open dialogue with investors in the sector.

Mirziyoyev said delays in land allocation, grid connection and technical specifications hold up energy projects, which require large investment and complex infrastructure. ACWA, Vision Invest, DataVolt, Voltalia and EDF proposed resolving such issues through ongoing dialogue, prompting his decision.

The council will be headed by Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration. It will seek quick solutions to problems investors face from land allocation to commissioning energy facilities.

The dialogue also addressed training skilled personnel. Saudi Arabia’s ACWA is equipping technical colleges in Karakalpakstan, Bukhara and Syrdarya and will train hundreds of young people each year in new areas of energy. Mirziyoyev urged other investors to join, and readiness was expressed to hand management of local technical colleges to investors.

Admission quotas for energy programs at local universities will be raised from the next academic year, and 50 young people a year will receive state grants to study at leading universities worldwide.

Mirziyoyev also said the aim is to open liquefied gas supply to the private sector nationwide in 2027. About 3.8 million households currently use liquefied gas. A pilot project with entrepreneurs has begun in Andijan province.
