Uzbekistan plans to build a second and third nuclear power plants, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today at an open dialogue with investors in the fuel and energy sector.
Talks with new investors on building the second plant will be held, he said.
“Tomorrow we will again talk with our new partners, with investors, about building the second nuclear power plant. That is why we are paying very close attention to nuclear power,” Mirziyoyev said.
He said uranium output in Uzbekistan is rising and that heavy investment in the industry has built up experience.
“It would be right to say that we have gained a great deal of investment, capacity and experience in uranium production. That is why we started the first nuclear power plant, and we have plans for a second and third as well,” he said.
On Aug. 17, at an event in Khorezm province, Mirziyoyev said extensive preparatory work for the second plant was under way.
Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant is being erected in Jizzakh province. Once fully operational, it will produce 15 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year.
