Uzbekistan recorded 123,400 deaths in the first nine months of 2026, 6.7% fewer than a year earlier and the lowest figure for the period in five years, the National Statistics Committee said in a report published Tuesday.
The committee said 8,800 fewer people died from January to September than in the same period of 2025, when 132,200 deaths were recorded. The mortality rate was 4.2 per 1,000 people.
The 2026 figure was below those for the same period in 2022 (130,200), 2023 (129,700), 2024 (131,700) and 2025.
Men accounted for 68,500 deaths, or 55.5%, and women for 54,900, or 44.5%, a difference of 13,600. By place of residence, 65,700 of the dead, or 53.2%, lived in urban areas and 57,700, or 46.8%, in rural areas.
Live births totaled 638,600 over the nine months, 26,000 fewer than a year earlier. The gap between births and deaths produced a natural population increase of 515,200, the committee said.
Uzbekistan reported 177,104 deaths in all of 2025, 2,700 more than in 2024. Diseases of the circulatory system accounted for the largest share that year, followed by tumors and respiratory diseases.
