Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said on Iran’s relations with Uzbekistan that they have deep historical roots, responding to a protest note from Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry and to posts by diplomatic missions about Samarkand and Registan.
“The ties that bind Iran and Uzbekistan did not appear today or yesterday. We attach great importance to our relations with Uzbekistan,” Baghaei said.
He said he was confident that the heritage the two countries share, in different areas of neighboring states and across a wider area, provides a basis for continuing and strengthening friendly ties between peoples.
Baghaei also addressed social media posts published by some embassies that drew objections from Uzbekistan. “Some of our colleagues at certain embassies published their posts as a message to the U.S. side,” he said.
The source text does not give the contents of the protest note or of the posts. It says only that Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry issued the note and that the posts by some embassies prompted objections from Uzbekistan.
