A new recreation area with an artificial lake will be created on Keles Yuli Street in Tashkent’s Almazar district, near Victory Park, the district administration said.

The 0.5-hectare lake will be 2 meters deep and hold 10,000 cubic meters of water. Pedestrian paths and a separate bicycle lane totaling 2 km will run around it. The area is being built on the site of a tree-lined promenade.

All mature trees will be preserved during construction, and 200 new trees will be planted, the administration said. Some small trees will be “carefully replanted at other suitable sites” under specialists’ supervision, it said.

The project is part of an initiative to create 12 artificial water bodies across all districts of the capital, aimed at reducing dust, humidifying the air and creating a more comfortable microclimate.

It was reported earlier that a 1.7-hectare lake will be created in the Kumaryk mahalla of the Sergeli district, near the current airport, and a 0.9-hectare lake in the Uchtepa district.

New water bodies are also being created in the Botanical Garden and in a new park on the site of the former silk research institute.
