An investigator with the Fergana city division of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office has been detained on suspicion of taking a $100,000 bribe, the State Security Service said.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Internal Security Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the service said.

The investigator allegedly promised to tilt the results of investigative actions in favor of a defendant in a case under Article 167 of the Criminal Code, which covers theft by misappropriation or embezzlement. The investigator also allegedly promised to reduce the amount of damage attributed to the defendant and to have a wanted notice cancelled.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under clause “a” of Part 3 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code, which covers taking a bribe in an especially large amount. An investigation is under way.
